Chair  - Wing Sie Ng

Wing Sie was the Head of the Asia team in Miss World Pageants as well as the coordinator for the Chinese New Year Event in collaboration with The City of Edinburgh Council in 2016. She founded this group so that there would be a platform for young people to exchange ideas and speak with professionals across all sectors. Through holding events such as the Chinese New Year Celebrations, BBYTA hopes to bring together all ethnicities together, not only to learn and network but also appreciating diversity across different cultures.

Vice Chair - Wing Yan Ng

Wing Yan is a Law and LPC graduate from the University of Aberdeen and University of Law, Manchester. She also previously served as a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament from 2013-2019 representing Edinburgh Central and Aberdeen Central. During that time, she was also the Convenor of the External Affairs Committee. She is currently working as a legal technologist at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP. Over the course of the LPC, she became interested in legal technology, conducted research, had conversations with industry experts and ultimately decided to pursue a career in that area. In her spare time, she works as a Business Development Consultant where she assists candidates in seeking career paths in law, including legal technology.

Head of Operations - Shannon Stevenson

Shannon Stevenson is a classically trained violinist/Scottish fiddler, a member of Sound Sense’s Board of Directors, and a graduate of the University of Aberdeen in Community Music, 2019. Over the past year she has been busy continuing her learning by attending online conferences/gatherings, successfully completing a Qualifi Level 5 TEFL qualification, and participating in Voice Over Training Scotland’s first online course. In her spare time, Shannon enjoys rock climbing and exercising as it reduces stress and increases her mental strength and confidence. She hopes to begin studying the PGDE in Primary Teaching this August.

 

Shannon joined BBYTA last year and had the pleasure to host Chinese New Year at the Scottish Parliament. This year, she was able to help with the digital logistics and contribute a performance of Auld Lang Syne. 

 

Shannon looks forward to continuing to strengthen the cultural bridge between Scotland and China through her work with BBYTA.

Head of Public Relations - Christian Hayward

Christian Hayward is a masters graduate of the University of Edinburgh in Chinese Studies  2020. He currently works as an analyst at the Taihe Institute, a leading Chinese think tank. He spends his time between Edinburgh, London and Beijing. 

 

He fell in love with China as a child and through community links, he has the opportunity to study Mandarin as a teenager. He ranked high for contestants his age at speaking competitions. He went onto read Chinese Studies at the University of Edinburgh, Fudan University, University of Wales and Northeast Normal University. He majored in Mandarin, Chinese History, Politics and Confucianism.

 

For Christian, BBYTA is a great way to contribute to society, with the ability to set young people with knowledge and confidence while bridging cultural gaps. Christian is passionate about combating anti-Chinese sentiment while providing an inclusive space across all different sections of society. 

 

Christian also helps BBYTA as both as a host at public events and being involved with BBYTA's public relations strategy with his fellow members. He is a confident public speaker who lives to provide factual knowledge about China to those who maybe interested or already engage with China in the cultural, business, charitable or academic sphere.

In his spare time, he likes live Jazz, visiting ancient sites and tabletop wargaming.

Head of Finances - Tommy Tay

Tommy was born in London and raised in Manchester, he has more than 15 years of finance experience and is currently working for Booking.com in the finance department.  His main responsibilities are to ensure financial resilience and sustainability of BBYTA.  He is proud to be a part of the BBYTA family, which is passionate about creating opportunities for young people who share the love for Chinese culture.

Marketing Officer - Ziwei Yang/Tracy

Ziwei Yang was born in Beijing, China. She finished her master programme at the University of Sheffield and now looking for a full-time job in the UK. Studying abroad enriched her life experience and have been evoking her to think more about her identity. She wishes to learn and grow with BBYTA by connecting with more people.

Marketing Officer - Yan Jiang

Yan Jiang was born and raised in Shanghai China. She is currently studying Society Culture and Media at University of Leeds. Through studying social science and personal experience of studying abroad, she has started to pay more attention towards social issues which provoked her interest in volunteering for NGOs. She is excited to join BBYTA to help eliminate the negative representations and discriminations of the Asian community.

Marketing Officer - Xyreen Reyes

Born in Philippines but raised in Wales, Xyreen is recent (BA) Media and Communications graduate from Cardiff University who is looking to enhance their knowledge and skills within the media industry. After graduating amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, Xyreen became motivated to inform, and to be informed, and initiate conversations regarding racism and xenophobia amongst her peers. Growing up in the UK as a person of Asian descent, Xyreen has known the struggles that come with this, and is thus passionate about raising awareness and discussing topics that will help to cultivate a compassionate relationship between Asian and British youth.

Marketing Officer - Rebeckah Hosie

Rebeckah Hosie is a recent graduate in Psychology from the University of Dundee. During her time at university, she also studied modules in English Literature and Spanish. She has many interests and hobbies, including arts and crafts, cooking and very recently in marketing. Rebeckah is also hoping to pursue a postgraduate degree, however, she is hoping to learn more skills and gain some experience beforehand, which is why she is currently interested in volunteering here at the BBYTA.
